This class begins the martial arts experience for students 6 to 14. As a basic class, one of the primary goals is to introduce new students to the most rudimentary techniques we offer. However, this class is very important in that it lays the foundation on which the remainder of the techniques is formed. Focus is put on defense of the standing position which includes punches and kicks from karate and kickboxing, while ground positions and reversal drills are taught to prepare the students for the more complex techniques in the advanced class. Students are also taught movement drills and pressure points for aids in a self-defense situation.

As students progress to the advanced class, they continue to practice and learn new punches and kicks, but they also begin to learn new techniques such as takedowns and throws from wrestling and Judo. Even more experienced students further their abilities by learning submissions from Jui Jitsu. Submissions are specialized holds and locks which cause an attacker to submit out of pain, unconsciousness, or the threat of a joint or bone breaking. With these advanced techniques, a great amount of control and restraint is needed and no child is permitted to learn these techniques before being screened and prepared at the previous belt rank. Also, students only practice submissions with other students that know those submissions. Once mastering all requirements and rank levels, students are promoted to Black Belt status from this class and are then permitted new opportunities.
PeeWee Zanshindo is almost identical to the basic youth zanshindo in curriculum; however the students are aged from 3 to 5 years old. Despite what some martial arts schools and parents may believe, students as young as 3 and sometimes even younger are able to learn martial arts techniques and grow in ability. Children this age are thirsty for learning, and as a hands-on activity, they are more likely to learn. Our PeeWee class teaches the above techniques while also adding motor skill proficiency, increasing social skills through interaction, and allowing the children to exercise in a healthy, non-damaging way. Children also learn to focus, pay attention, learn patience, feel confident, and follow directions.
***Note:
Pee Wee Zanshindo and Advanced Youth Zanshindo are currently not offered at Savannah Martial Arts. We hope to offer these great programs in the future, but are not at this time. If you have a young child and wish for them to have private lessons, we will accept children as young as 3, but there is no class offered for this age group at the moment.
New students start at any time and classes are available for 6 years up to around 14 years old at this time.
